WeChat has released a notice regarding the phased governance of "AI modification" videos: In March 2026, a total of 3800 pieces of non-compliant short video content were dealt with, and 1 related account was handled.
According to the deployment requirements of the State Administration of Radio and Television, in order to control the abuse of AI tools by some accounts, which involves subversive tampering, "demonic" deconstruction, and vulgar adaptation of classic films and animations, the platform will further increase its efforts to govern "AI tampering" videos to maintain a good order of information content dissemination on the internet. Through platform inspections, it was found that some accounts had engaged in illegal behavior by releasing videos with negative "AI tampering" content. In accordance with relevant national laws and regulations, as well as the provisions of the Tencent WeChat Software License Service Agreement and the WeChat Video Account Operation Specification, the platform has taken measures against the relevant short video content and accounts. By March 2026, a total of 3800 pieces of illegal short video content have been handled, and one related account has been dealt with.
