To implement the "Funeral Management Regulations" and strengthen price supervision in the funeral industry, the Shanghai Market Supervision Administration recently issued the "Regulations on Clear Pricing in the Funeral Industry" in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, providing classification guidance for all types of business to clearly price their products and services. The "Regulations" include funeral homes, cemeteries, ossuaries, as well as businesses selling funeral supplies and other organizations and individuals engaged in funeral-related services within the scope of funeral industry operators, covering all aspects of the funeral process without leaving any regulatory blind spots. The "Regulations" are based on regulatory enforcement practice and further refine the requirements for clear pricing. There are both general provisions and specific provisions tailored to eliminate information gaps between bereaved families and operators. The general provisions are to be followed by all funeral industry operators, while the specific provisions apply to different types of operators such as funeral homes, cemeteries, ossuaries, funeral intermediaries, as well as specific products and services such as urns, shrouds, burial plots, and leasing of memorial sites for rituals.
