The amount of bribery is particularly huge. The former general manager of China's Datang Corporation, Kou Weiyi, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve in the first instance.
On April 1, 2026, the Intermediate People's Court of Xing'an League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, publicly pronounced the first instance verdict on the case of corruption, influence-peddling, embezzlement, and abuse of power by Kou Wei, former deputy secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of China Datang Group Co., Ltd. Kou Wei was sentenced to death for the crime of bribery, with a two-year reprieve, deprivation of political rights for life, and confiscation of all personal property. He was also sentenced to twelve years imprisonment for embezzlement, with a fine of three million RMB; eight years imprisonment for influence-peddling, with a fine of one million RMB; and four years imprisonment for abuse of power by state-owned company personnel. The death penalty was decided to be implemented with a two-year reprieve, deprivation of political rights for life, and confiscation of all personal property. The ill-gotten gains from bribery and influence-peddling by Kou Wei will be turned over to the state treasury, with any deficiency to be further recovered; embezzled assets will be legally returned to the victimized units.
