Google researchers warn that future quantum computers may require less resources than previously expected to crack some encryption techniques protecting cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. The researchers indicate that future quantum computers could break elliptic curve encryption technology, and their latest predictions show a significant reduction in the quantum computing hardware scale needed to break ECDLP-256. They urge the encryption industry to transition to post-quantum encryption and reduce avoidable risks. They state: "We urge all affected encryption communities to immediately join the ranks of those migrating to PQC, without delay."
