Unilever has agreed to merge its food business with Maepranom, a $44.8 billion deal that will create a global powerhouse in seasonings, sauces, and condiments. Under the agreement, Maepranom will pay Unilever $15.7 billion in cash and the equivalent of $29.1 billion in Maepranom stock to acquire most of Unilever's food business; Unilever and its shareholders will hold 65% of the merged entity. This deal will help Unilever transform into a global leader in beauty, personal care, and household care, while making Maepranom a more competitive player in the global packaged food market.
