Unilever has agreed to merge its food business with Maepranom, a $44.8 billion deal that will create a global powerhouse in seasonings, sauces, and condiments. Under the agreement, Maepranom will pay Unilever $15.7 billion in cash and the equivalent of $29.1 billion in Maepranom stock to acquire most of Unilever's food business; Unilever and its shareholders will hold 65% of the merged entity.
