Hong Kong Kai Tak Intelligent Green Collective Transport System Railway Plan Approved by Executive Council Meeting.
Sina Finance reported on March 31st that the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Executive Council today approved the railway scheme for the Kai Tak Smart Green Transport System according to the Railway Ordinance. The Kai Tak project is approximately 3.5 kilometers long and is planned to have six stations, with terminal stations connecting Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and MTR Kai Tak Station at both ends. The Kai Tak project will provide convenient transportation connecting services from the former runway area to MTR Kai Tak Station, strengthening the coherence of commercial and residential development, tourism, entertainment, fitness, and community facilities in the area. The government launched the tender for the Kai Tak Smart Green Transport System contract in October 2025, with the system expected to commence service in 2031. A spokesperson for the SAR government stated that the government had collected public opinions on the Kai Tak project through various channels, including consulting the Legislative Council Railways Subcommittee, the Transport Advisory Committee, the Kowloon City District Council, and the Waterfront Development Taskforce, as well as communicating with relevant Legislative Council members and stakeholders. The public generally supports the Kai Tak project. The spokesperson also mentioned that the project operator will maintain close communication with relevant stakeholders during the promotion of the Kai Tak project. In addition, the project operator must comply with the conditions stipulated in the environmental permit issued by the Director of Environmental Protection to reduce the environmental impact of the project.
