Chinese Academy of Sciences academician: All-solid-state batteries will have to wait at least another 5 years.
Recently, several battery companies and car manufacturers have successively announced their progress in the research and development of solid-state batteries, as well as their timelines for mass production. Ouyang Minggao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice Chairman of the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Association, stated at the 2026 annual research institute expert media exchange meeting of the One Hundred People Association that "Many people are waiting for solid-state batteries, but I don't think we need to wait. Electric vehicles are already very good now." He mentioned that solid-state batteries are expected to be put into vehicles starting in 2027, but it may still take five to ten years for them to truly become mainstream and capture a 1% market share.
