Cui Dongshu, the deputy secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, stated in an article that global car sales are expected to reach 96.89 million units in 2025, a 6% increase compared to the previous year. In February 2026, global car sales reached 6.74 million units, a 2% decrease from the same period the previous year. From January to February 2026, global car sales reached 13.96 million units, a slight 0.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Due to slower growth in the Chinese car market, global car sales growth in January and February 2026 has significantly slowed down. The Chinese car market has been performing relatively well in recent years, with its market share continuously increasing. Since 2020, China's global market share has been rising, reaching 33.8% in 2023, 34.2% in 2024, and 35.4% in 2025. However, in 2026, China's market share is expected to drop to 29.7%, a significant decrease compared to 2025. The overseas environment for Chinese domestic brands is favorable as many countries have low penetration rates and large market potential. The speed of expansion will determine the outcome. In January and February of 2026, global car sales increased by 0.1%, with Chinese car sales decreasing by 9%, Indian car market sales increasing by 11%, Thai car market sales increasing by 64%, and Russian market sales decreasing by 7%. Some markets in South America have shown good performance. The potential for Chinese car companies in other underdeveloped small countries remains huge.
