State Administration of Foreign Exchange: China's net foreign assets reached 40,713 billion US dollars by the end of 2025.
The State Administration of Foreign Exchange announced the international investment position table of China as of the end of 2025. At the end of 2025, China's foreign financial assets were $11,786 billion, foreign liabilities were $7,147 billion, and the net foreign assets were $40,713 billion. Among the foreign financial assets, direct investment assets were $35,787 billion, securities investment assets were $19,875 billion, financial derivative assets were $261 billion, other investment assets were $24,494 billion, and reserve assets were $37,443 billion, accounting for 30%, 17%, 0.2%, 21%, and 32% of foreign financial assets respectively. In terms of foreign liabilities, direct investment liabilities were $39,819 billion, securities investment liabilities were $23,507 billion, financial derivative liabilities were $242 billion, and other investment liabilities were $13,580 billion, accounting for 52%, 30%, 0.3%, and 18% of foreign liabilities respectively. In terms of SDR valuation, at the end of 2025, China's foreign financial assets were 86,060 billion SDR, foreign liabilities were 56,332 billion SDR, and net foreign assets were 29,728 billion SDR. In addition, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange revised the quarterly international investment position table since 2024 based on the latest data. To further improve data transparency, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange added the release of sectoral and term data as of the end of 2025, which will be published on the official website of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange under the "Statistical Data" section.
