On the 25th, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Kao Le, stated in an interview with the local mainstream media that Cambodia will become the first country in the region to establish special criminal laws specifically targeting telecommunications fraud. The upcoming "Anti-Telecom Network Fraud Law" will systematically combat related crimes with severe punishments, with the most serious offenders facing possible life imprisonment. According to the "Khmer Times" on the 25th, the "Anti-Telecom Network Fraud Law" is currently in the final review stage and is expected to be formally passed and implemented soon. According to the "Fresh News" website of Cambodia on the 26th, Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasized the need to concurrently strengthen social security and governance, especially in resolutely combating telecommunications fraud. He pointed out that telecom fraud is a part of the "black economy" that must be eradicated thoroughly to avoid damaging the local and national image. Hun Sen stated that although telecom network fraud is a regional issue, Cambodia must take proactive measures to continue increasing prevention and crackdown efforts to maintain social order and a good business environment.
