The Federal Reserve takes new action in the legal game surrounding the US Department of Justice subpoena.
The Federal Reserve took the latest action in the legal battle surrounding the subpoena from the Department of Justice, paving the way for the losing party to appeal. Previously, the Department of Justice issued a subpoena related to the investigation of the renovation project at the Federal Reserve headquarters. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve submitted documents to the court in response to Federal Prosecutor Jeanine Pirro's request for Chief Judge James Boasberg to reconsider his decision to revoke the subpoena. The contents of the document have been sealed and not disclosed. Boasberg ruled earlier this month to revoke the subpoena, stating that the Department of Justice did not provide sufficient evidence to justify it. The subpoena is related to the $2.5 billion renovation project at the Washington headquarters of the Federal Reserve and also involves testimony given by Powell last year to the Senate Banking Committee regarding the construction project. As the federal prosecutor for the District of Columbia, Pirro has requested Judge Boasberg to reconsider his decision and allow her to enforce the subpoena. The next step will be for Judge Boasberg to decide whether to reinstate the subpoena, which will determine if Pirro's investigation can move forward.
