The German Finance Minister tends to require foreign companies to establish joint ventures.
German Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz hopes to require foreign companies operating in Europe to form joint ventures with local companies and seek stricter scrutiny of cross-border acquisitions. According to a summary document of the Ministry of Finance, Scholz suggested protecting German companies in industries that are "already technologically lagging". Scholz proposed introducing binding price caps and windfall taxes to cushion the rise in gasoline and energy prices, and returning additional funds to consumers. In order to support German businesses and the economy, Scholz also proposed several other measures, including income tax reform, the deployment of "targeted tariffs", and the introduction of a digital tax.
