The price of natural gas in Europe is dropping, influenced by diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

With hopes for Middle East diplomacy overshadowing the impact of worsening supply disruptions, European natural gas prices have plummeted. In early trading, the benchmark Dutch TTF natural gas front-month contract fell by 6.4% to 50.58 euros per megawatt-hour. However, analysts at ANZ Bank stated, "Qatari energy company has declared force majeure on some supply contracts after its facilities were attacked last week." They also mentioned, "Meanwhile, Iran has stopped exporting natural gas to Turkey after its South Pars gas field was attacked by Israel last week." For Europe, the main risk is that competition with Asia in terms of liquefied natural gas shipments is intensifying just as the region seeks to replenish depleted reserves before winter arrives. Even if a ceasefire is reached, repairs to the damaged facilities of the Qatari energy company will take several years.
