Canada and Norway are currently competing to provide energy to their allies in Asia and Europe by promoting the development and export of oil and natural gas amidst the Middle East energy crisis. Canadian Energy Minister Hodgson stated that the world is facing the largest energy supply disruption in history and Canadian producers are in an ideal position to meet customer demand for alternative energy sources. "For a long time, people have not clearly understood the importance of energy security for our national security and the security of our allied countries. Therefore, in many ways, now is a critical moment for Canada," Hodgson said. "The world is in distress and they need a reliable supplier." The CEO of Norway's largest oil and gas company, Equinor, also expressed similar views, stating that the company plans to increase international production by 25% by 2030 to reach 900,000 barrels per day and is prepared to approve expansion projects. Equinor's production capacity had already reached its limit before the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran last month (Financial Times).
