Philippine President: Aviation gasoline shortage caused by US-Iran conflict may lead to possible flight cancellations.
According to reports from media such as Bloomberg and the Singapore Straits Times, Philippine President Marcos stated on the 24th that there is a possibility of flights being grounded due to a shortage of aviation fuel caused by the US-Iran conflict. "Several countries have informed our airlines that they are unable to provide fueling services, so the aircraft must carry fuel for round trips," Marcos said in an interview with Bloomberg. "Long-haul flights will face more serious problems." When asked if flights could indeed be grounded, Marcos said, "We hope not, but it is possible." The report stated that Marcos' statements seem to contradict a briefing earlier in the day by Philippine Energy Secretary Sharon Garin. Garin stated that the Energy Department had met with airlines on the 23rd, and the airlines confirmed that their fuel orders were sufficient. According to Bloomberg, due to the Philippines' heavy dependence on imported oil, the country is more vulnerable to energy shortages and domestic fuel price spikes compared to other countries in Southeast Asia.
