Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos said that due to the shortage of aviation fuel caused by the situation in Iran, the Philippines is very likely to stop flights. Marcos said in a media interview on Tuesday, "Several countries have informed our airlines that they cannot provide fuel for their planes, so flights must carry their own fuel back and forth. The problems faced by long-haul flights will be much more severe." When asked if they would have to eventually stop flights, Marcos said, "We hope this situation does not arise, but the possibility is very high." With the continuous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, which may trigger the most severe oil shock since the 1970s, Asian airlines are devising contingency plans. Due to the Philippines' high dependence on imported oil, with most of it coming from the Middle East, the country faces higher risks in terms of energy shortages and skyrocketing domestic fuel prices compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. Philippine low-cost airline Cebu Pacific Air said in a statement on Monday that it plans to reduce flight frequencies starting from next month due to the impact of the Middle East crisis causing a surge in fuel prices.
