However, he did not disclose who the Iranian official negotiating with the US is, only referring to them as a "high-ranking individual." According to journalists in Tehran, who have compiled judgments from a former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Iranian media, Trump is using a "deception strategy" with four main purposes: 1) manipulating the market and controlling energy prices, particularly oil; 2) stalling for time to allow for the deployment of additional US troops; 3) collecting information on the whereabouts of high-ranking Iranian officials for future use; and 4) creating divisions and escalating internal conflicts in Iran.
