According to Bloomberg, Apple is reportedly preparing to launch advertisements on its Maps app to further expand its service business revenue. Informed sources revealed that the related announcement could be released as early as this month. The model is similar to Google Maps: merchants and brands can bid for ads based on search keywords. For example, when users search for keywords such as "sushi," the merchant with the highest bid will appear at the top of the results. Yelp also uses a similar bidding model. Apple has not yet responded officially. Apple's service business revenue has exceeded $100 billion annually, accounting for over a quarter of total revenue (less than 10% ten years ago). The addition of map advertisements will further boost this sector. However, Apple's service business is facing pressure: regulatory demands for reform of the App Store model and the impact of AI search competition with Google's massive search partnership. Growth in advertising revenue can offset the risk of slowdown in other businesses. Market institutions predict that Apple's advertising business will generate revenue of approximately $8.5 billion this year, which is still relatively small in scale. The Apple advertising department, led by senior executives, changed its name from "Search Ads" to "Apple Ads" last year, indicating a clear expansion intent. Apple Maps ads will launch on iPhone and other devices, as well as on the web, this summer.
