Zuckerberg creates an artificial intelligence body tailored specifically for himself.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the American company "Meta", is currently working on building his own personal AI assistant to help him fulfill his CEO duties. At the same time, "Meta" is actively integrating artificial intelligence into company governance. According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal on the 22nd, the aforementioned CEO AI assistant is still under development and can currently help Zuckerberg more quickly access information, such as finding answers that he typically needs to go through multiple levels of company personnel to obtain. Furthermore, "Meta" is attempting to eliminate multi-layer organizational structures, change employees' daily work habits, in order to maintain a competitive advantage against startups specializing in artificial intelligence.
In January, Zuckerberg stated during an earnings call that "Meta" is investing in "AI-native tools...to enhance 'individual contributors' and flatten teams." Sources claim that the internal message board at "Meta" is filled with employees sharing new cases of AI applications and tools created with AI. One tool is a personal AI assistant that can access employee chat records and work files, autonomously communicate with colleagues or other AI assistants; another tool is an AI tool based on the "Claude" model, between a chatbot and an AI assistant, used to index and query project documents. Some employees even use their personal AI assistants to communicate on the internal message board.
In December of last year, media reports stated that Zuckerberg would rename Facebook to "Meta" in 2021, reflecting its focus on the future of immersive virtual worlds. However, the company's vision for the metaverse largely remains unrealized, prompting the company to transition and heavily invest in artificial intelligence. "Meta" recently acquired the American social network Moltbook, specializing in AI assistants, and the "Manus" AI assistant that allows users to call tools for task execution.
"Meta" also established a new organization called "Applied AI Engineering" to accelerate the development of company's large language models with AI assistance. The organization adopts a super-flat structure, with one manager overseeing up to 50 "individual contributors." Reports indicate that some employees at "Meta" are motivated by embracing AI, while others are concerned about potential job cuts as the company rapidly focuses on AI. "Meta" conducted its first round of layoffs in 2022, cutting 11,000 jobs, as the number of employees almost doubled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, it further reduced staff to about 67,000, before expanding again. The latest total number of employees is nearly 79,000.
