Iraq claims that it will not hold foreign oil companies accountable for breach of contract under "force majeure" circumstances.
On the evening of March 20th local time, a source from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil said that the Iraqi government has decided to implement "force majeure" measures on all oil fields being developed by foreign oil companies in Iraq. If unforeseen or unavoidable events occur during the implementation of the oil field development contract, leading to the temporary suspension of production in the oil field, the Iraqi government will not hold foreign oil companies responsible for breach of contract in terms of production volume or investment amount due to "force majeure" factors.
