Houthi militants in Yemen claim they may block the Strait of Mandeb.
According to a report by Russian news agency on the 20th, Mohamed Buhaiti, a member of the political bureau of the Houthi armed group in Yemen, said that in order to support Iran, the organization may block the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Buhaiti told the Russian news agency that the Houthi armed group in Yemen is considering all possible options to support Iran in resisting US and Israeli military strikes. If they have to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Houthi armed group in Yemen will only attack ships from countries involved in attacks on Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is a strait connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, serving as a vital communication route between the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean, known as the "throat" connecting the three continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa by sea.
