On March 17, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with the visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Meredov, who accompanied the national leader and chairman of the People's Council, Berdimuhamedov. Wang Yi stated that Chairman Berdimuhamedov is an old friend of the Chinese people, and the strong mutual trust and deep friendship between the highest leaders of the two countries have provided important strategic guidance for the steady development of the comprehensive strategic partnership. This visit is a big event in the China-Turkmenistan relationship this year, and it is believed that the leaders of the two countries will have in-depth strategic communication to deepen bilateral relations and address global challenges together, reaching new important consensus. Wang Yi expressed that China and Turkmenistan are sincere friends, good partners for win-win cooperation. Meredov congratulated China on the successful holding of the National People's Congress, thanked China for warmly welcoming Chairman Berdimuhamedov's visit, and expressed belief that the high-level mutual trust and friendship between the highest leaders of Turkmenistan and China will lead to fruitful results from the visit, further consolidating the friendship between the two peoples and promoting exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Turkmenistan supports President Xi Jinping's four major global initiatives and is willing to closely cooperate with China in the multilateral field, jointly prepare for the Third China-Central Asia Summit, and promote regional peace, stability, and development. The two sides also exchanged views on common concerns such as the situation in Iran and other international and regional issues.
