The completion of the railway track from Kota Bharu to Gemas on the east coast of Malaysia.
On March 16, the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Malaysia, the East Coast Rail Link in Malaysia, held a ceremony for the completion of the track laying from Kota Bharu to Gua Musang at the Gua Musang Station, marking the early completion of the task of laying a total of 519 kilometers of track. Malaysian Second Finance Minister Amiruddin Hanja and other Chinese and Malaysian guests attended the event. The Malaysian side stated that the overall progress of the project has reached 92.62%, and this section is expected to be operational by January 2027, effectively improving the transportation connectivity on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula and promoting regional economic development. Malaysian government officials pointed out that the East Coast Rail Link is not only an important national infrastructure project, but also an important achievement of Malaysia-China cooperation. It was introduced that the track laying work of the project started in December 2023 and was fully completed in February 2026, laying the foundation for subsequent testing and commissioning.
