The Market Supervision Administration launches a series of actions to improve the compliance and quality of food safety on the internet, focusing on addressing three major issues.
To further strengthen the network food trading platform and the main responsibility of network operators, the General Administration of Market Supervision has deployed a series of actions to improve the compliance and quality of network food safety starting today. The series of actions focus on resolving three major issues that consumers have strongly reported: first, strict regulation of live streaming for sales, urging live streaming platforms, live streaming rooms, and hosts to strictly enforce the "Regulations on Supervision and Management of Food Safety Responsibility of Live Streaming E-commerce Operators" officially implemented since March 20, clarifying responsibilities, implementing prohibited sales lists, and preventing misleading consumers with "marketing language." Second, strict inspection of the qualifications of network food operators, urging platforms to strictly perform substantive review obligations, preventing food products without food production and operation licenses, using fake qualifications or using others' qualifications from being sold online. Third, strict punishment for false advertising, urging online food operators to truthfully display information such as food origin, ingredients, and functions to prevent using inappropriate language for disease prevention or treatment to deceive consumers. During the action period, local market supervision departments will carry out special rectification for prominent issues such as live streaming food sales, online food sales, health food, and internet celebrity food, intensify supervision and law enforcement efforts against counterfeit and substandard food products, promote the signing of self-discipline conventions by internet trading platforms, strengthen cross-regional, online and offline coordinated supervision, and achieve traceability of food safety sources and risks.
