The Shanghai police have launched an investigation into the founder of Yingke Law Firm for allegedly embezzling lawyer fees for external financing and providing improper guarantees.

On March 11th, rumors of Beijing Yingke Law Firm's founder Mei Xiangrong being accused of misappropriating lawyer's fees for external financing and providing illegal guarantees quickly spread, with online reports suggesting the financing amount reached 4 billion yuan. Several interviewees told China Newsweek that in 2025, Mei Xiangrong had been interviewed by the police, urging him to quickly repay the funds and resolve the risks. However, he has yet to resolve the issue, and in March of this year, he turned himself in to the police. On the morning of March 16th, China Newsweek learned from the Economic Investigation Team of the Jing'an Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau that the police have now initiated an investigation into the case.
