315 Gala Exposes Bleached Chicken Feet, Disgusting Production Workshop of Internet Celebrity Chicken Feet
Various chicken feet sold in the market are mostly white in color, plump in texture, and appetizing to look at. However, one detail has caught the attention of reporters, and that is the price of chicken feet food. A 500-gram portion of chicken feet is often sold for as low as 15 yuan. Are the internet-famous chicken feet products really as clean and trustworthy as they appear on the outside?
With doubts in mind, reporters from the 315 Evening News conducted an investigation in the Sichuan and Chongqing region where chicken feet sales are booming. Without obtaining a health certificate, without undergoing any health checks, and without any sanitation and disinfection measures, reporters easily entered the production workshop of Mingyang Food in Chengdu, where the pre-processing of chicken feet products for Shufu Xiang Food Co., Ltd. is carried out. On site, the reporter saw that the food processing workshop had a strong odor in the soaking area, trimming area, and selection area, and the foul smell made people feel nauseous. The production environment was dirty and chaotic: the floor was covered with murky water, various plastic baskets were randomly piled up, and the production machinery was heavily stained with oil. In this workshop, a large number of chicken feet were directly piled on the damp and dirty floor, cleaning tools such as brooms and shovels were casually placed on top of the chicken feet; even if the chicken feet were stepped on by personnel, the workers just picked them up, put them back in the processing basket, and continued to use them, completely ignoring food hygiene and safety.
As the investigation deepened, a key piece of information was revealed - despite the dirty environment, the chicken feet that ultimately came out were all white and tempting, all thanks to a crucial "bleaching" process carried out by the factory. The staff admitted: "It is bleached with hydrogen peroxide." Hydrogen peroxide, as a strong oxidizing agent and disinfectant, is often used for sterilization. According to national regulations, hydrogen peroxide cannot be used in the processing of chicken feet. This chemical substance will first destroy the protein and other nutritional components in the food. If consumers consume food soaked in it for a long time, it will cause damage to the oral mucosa, liver and kidney function, and other health hazards. Overconsumption can even be life-threatening.
