On March 13th local time, U.S. President Trump claimed that the U.S. military had launched airstrikes on the Iranian oil export hub island of Khark Island. CNN quoted former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and retired Army Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt as saying that the U.S. attack on Khark Island has heightened the risk of conflict and could ultimately lead to uncontrollable oil prices. Energy researcher and economist Ed Hesse of the University of Houston also pointed out that if this attack permanently damages Iran's oil export capacity, along with reduced production by regional energy companies and the ongoing conflict, it is expected that oil prices will continue to rise.
