Citigroup analysts stated in a research report that global smartphone shipments in 2026 may decrease by 17%. They pointed out that due to the increase in memory chip prices leading to weak demand, Citigroup has revised down the estimated smartphone shipments for 2026 and 2027 to 1.04 billion and 1.17 billion respectively. Citigroup stated that smartphone manufacturers will pass on some of the cost pressures to customers and some manufacturers may face memory shortages.
