The UK regulatory agency requires social media platforms to strengthen user age verification.
Two regulatory agencies in the UK sent letters to several large social media platforms on the 12th, asking these companies to take more measures to verify the age of users to prevent underage users from using services that are not suitable for their age. The UK Communications Authority and the UK Information Commissioner's Office said that social media-related recommendation algorithms may push harmful or addictive content to children, which is increasingly concerning. At the same time, some companies have failed to comply with their own minimum age restrictions. Melanie Dawes, Director of the UK Communications Authority, said in the letter that the social media network services "do not prioritize child safety at the core of their products," and this situation must be changed as soon as possible, otherwise the Authority will take action.
