U.S. media: The United States will permanently close its consulate in Peshawar, Pakistan.
According to reports from the Associated Press, NBC News, and other American media, the U.S. State Department will permanently close the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar, Pakistan. The consulate is the closest diplomatic institution to the Afghanistan border and is the "first" consulate to be completely closed since the State Department announced its restructuring. A copy of the notification obtained by the Associated Press on the 11th shows that the State Department has informed Congress this week of the plan to close the consulate, stating that this move will save $7.5 million annually and will not affect the United States' pursuit of its national interests.
