Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, on Wednesday harshly criticized Amazon for opposing SpaceX's plan for an orbital data center, while failing to make progress in its own satellite "deployment milestone." In a post on X, Carr wrote, "What Amazon should be focusing on is that it is still about 1,000 satellites away from the upcoming deployment milestone, instead of wasting time and resources on suing companies that are planning to launch thousands of satellites into orbit." Last week, Amazon urged the FCC to reject SpaceX's application to launch up to 1 million low-earth orbit satellites, describing the application as a "grandiose idea rather than a viable plan," and pointing out that SpaceX has provided almost no details on how it will "fulfill these grand promises."
