National Development and Reform Commission's Social Affairs Department: Will upgrade and renovate 2,000 public elderly care institutions.

On the afternoon of March 7th, Liu Dechun, Director of the Social Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated at a press briefing that in order to ensure that the elderly are taken care of, the draft outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan proposes to improve the mechanism for determining and adjusting basic pension benefits, gradually increase the basic old-age pension for urban and rural residents, promote long-term care insurance, develop community-based eldercare services, family eldercare beds, and mutual eldercare, upgrade 2000 public eldercare institutions, and increase the percentage of nursing beds in eldercare institutions to 73%.
