Chinese enterprises have resumed construction of the hydropower project in Argentina.
The Argentine government announced on the 5th that after signing a supplementary agreement with the temporary consortium led by Chinese Gezhouba Group responsible for construction, the hydroelectric project in Santa Cruz province, including two hydroelectric plants, has officially restarted and construction has resumed. Santa Cruz Province Governor Claudio Vidal emphasized that the hydroelectric project in Santa Cruz Province is the largest project in the province's history and one of the most important infrastructure projects in Argentina, which will have a positive impact on regional employment and economic activities. The financing agreement for the Santa Cruz hydroelectric project was signed in 2014 and a consortium consisting of Chinese Gezhouba Group and Argentine companies was responsible for the construction tasks. However, due to various financial and technical issues left by previous Argentine governments, the project has been at a standstill since the end of 2023.
