The Iranian Navy is caught in an "asymmetric" endgame, with its main warships on the verge of destruction.
Over the past week, the Iranian Navy has suffered a devastating blow, with most of its surface vessels damaged or destroyed. The country now has to rely on a small fleet made up of mini submarines and missile-equipped fast boats. The United States claims to have hit 30 of these boats, while researchers have found that Iran had a pre-war stockpile of up to 200. According to a report to be released next week by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, US attacks appear to have initially focused on larger units, and Iran's navy and Revolutionary Guard still retain a significant number of missile-equipped patrol boats and ships.
