Meta plans to develop its own chips to train its in-house AI models.
Meta Platforms Inc.'s Chief Financial Officer stated that despite the recent major agreements with top chip manufacturers, the company still has ambitions for developing its own customized chips, including plans to develop processors that can train future artificial intelligence models. "Some of our workloads are indeed highly customized," said Meta's CFO Susan Li at a technology conference hosted by Morgan Stanley. "Tasks like sorting and recommending are the areas we have started to experiment with and where we currently have the largest-scale deployment of customized chips. However, we expect and hope to continually expand the scale over time, including eventually using them for AI model training."
