Civilian gas supply sounds red alert, Middle East war surrounds millions of Indian families' kitchens.
Due to the Middle East conflict causing a disruption in the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the Persian Gulf, Indian households will face a severe shortage of cooking gas in the coming weeks. Although the escalating conflict has shifted focus to the stranded crude oil and liquefied natural gas ships in the Strait of Hormuz, India's most pressing crisis lies with LPG. While it is a niche fuel, its scarcity will impact millions of households. According to sources, unless the scheduled shipments arriving in March can start moving within a few days, this crisis will be unavoidable. Data intelligence company Kpler's data shows that India is the world's second largest LPG buyer, with over 90% of its supply coming from the Middle East. A government official stated on Tuesday that India's LPG reserves can support around 30 days. Following the attacks over the weekend, Indian refiners met with government officials to discuss energy emergency plans.
