The Taiwan Affairs Office responds to the release of the so-called "2026 Mainland China Economic Risk Alert" by the Taiwan Affairs Commission.
Regarding the disclosure of Liu Shifang's relatives working in mainland Chinese companies and the announcement of investigation and punishment in accordance with the law, on the 28th, the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan issued its first "2026 Mainland China Economic Risk Warning", reminding Taiwanese businesses to carefully evaluate investments and operations in the mainland to avoid economic losses and personal safety risks, and calling on the mainland to stop its actions.
Zhang Han, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that media reports have attracted widespread attention in Taiwan, and the key issue now is whether the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities can give a direct answer on whether Liu Shifang's relatives are seeking profits in the mainland, whether the DPP is engaging in double standards by suppressing and persecuting individuals involved in cross-strait exchanges on one hand, and using relatives to make money in the mainland on the other hand, instead of diverting attention and evading the issue.
Our punitive measures only target a very small number of die-hard "Taiwan independence" elements and their associated enterprises and supporters, and do not involve the majority of Taiwanese compatriots and Taiwanese businesses. The DPP authorities deliberately confuse the public, fabricating so-called "risks" with the aim of intimidating the people of Taiwan, creating a "cicada effect" to obstruct and undermine cross-strait exchanges and cooperation.
