The U.S. Appeals Court rejects the Trump administration's request to delay tariff refunds.
The Supreme Court of the United States recently ruled that most of the tariff measures of the Trump administration are invalid. The Department of Justice subsequently appealed to the Federal Appeals Court, requesting an additional 90-day buffer period for the court to consider options for the executive and legislative branches, with a total delay of about four months. However, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected the Department of Justice's request, meaning that the subsequent steps of the tariff refund process can be quickly initiated. This ruling by the Federal Appeals Court clears the way for the lower court, the U.S. International Trade Court, to initiate the tariff refund related legal process. According to Department of Justice lawyers, the refund process may take several years to complete. Following the Supreme Court ruling, the addition of hundreds of companies filing lawsuits for tariff refunds has increased the total number of tariff cases the Trump administration faces to over 2,000.
