The National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference are about to convene. Liu Yonghao, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the New Hope Group, is concerned about the internet ecosystem. He has submitted a proposal entitled "Boosting Entrepreneur Confidence and Constructing a Good Internet Ecosystem". Liu Yonghao stated that from the "31 measures for private economy" to the "Promotion Law for Private Economy", the support from the government has been continuously increasing. However, some online media spread rumors and defamation about companies for the sake of traffic, leaving entrepreneurs in a dilemma of "rumors spreading like wildfire and spending a lot of energy on defending their rights". In response to this, the Cyberspace Administration has already achieved some results with its series of actions to clean up the internet. Liu Yonghao suggested to increase the severity of punishment, raise the cost of illegal acts, and explore a mechanism of reversing the burden of proof in cases of online rumors involving enterprises. He also proposed to hold online platforms accountable and verify negative content related to key companies before publishing it. Furthermore, he recommended establishing a green channel for rights protection, setting up a dedicated hotline for online rights protection for private enterprises, and implementing a "white list" system for excellent company public opinion. Overall, these measures aim to create a healthier online environment for businesses.
