According to the Securities Times, on February 27th, BMW Group announced the first introduction of physical AI into Europe, launching a humanoid robot pilot project at its Leipzig factory. The project aims to integrate humanoid robot technology into existing car production lines, while exploring more applications in battery and component production. The robot supplier for this collaboration is the Swedish company Hexagon, which BMW Group refers to as a "long-term stable partner." Hexagon released its first humanoid robot AEON in June 2025. In December of the same year, AEON completed its first test deployment at the BMW Leipzig factory. As planned, in April 2026, AEON will undergo further testing to ensure a smooth entry into the formal pilot phase in the summer of 2026. In 2025, BMW Group collaborated with Figure AI and deployed humanoid robots for the first time at its Spartanburg factory in the United States.
