During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China's investment in hydrological infrastructure construction has significantly increased compared to the "13th Five-Year Plan". There are more than 133,000 hydrological monitoring stations in various categories, basically achieving full coverage of major rivers, their main tributaries, and small and medium rivers with flood control tasks. This was revealed at the 2026 Hydrological and Water Situation Work Conference held by the Ministry of Water Resources on the 28th. Liu Zhiyu, director of the hydrology department of the Ministry of Water Resources, explained that relying on relevant hydrological facilities, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China has issued a cumulative total of 2.72 million flood forecasts and 12,400 flood warnings, extending the lead time for major river flood forecasting from 3 days to 10 days, significantly reducing flood disaster losses. In addition, new achievements have been made in hydrological services for water resources management and water ecology protection. It is reported that water resources departments at all levels are continuously improving the three-dimensional multi-factor water resources monitoring system, conducting field investigations on 3,260 springs nationwide, filling in the gaps in the survey, monitoring, and evaluation system for water resources spring objects.
