The Japanese antitrust authority is investigating Microsoft.
On the 25th, Japan Kyodo News reported that the Japan Fair Trade Commission conducted an on-site investigation of Microsoft's Japanese subsidiary on the grounds of suspected violations of the Anti-Monopoly Law. The report stated that the Japan Fair Trade Commission believes that Microsoft may be engaging in unfair competition in the cloud services market by leveraging its dominant position in the office software and operating system fields. Specifically, Japanese companies may have to pay higher fees when using Microsoft-related software on competing cloud platforms like Amazon compared to using it on Microsoft's own Azure platform. Regulatory authorities believe that this differential pricing practice may lead customers to switch to Microsoft's own platform, potentially adversely impacting market competition.
