According to reports from several US media outlets such as the Associated Press, US Secretary of Defense Haggis held a meeting with the CEO of the American artificial intelligence company Anthropic, Dario Amodei, on February 24th local time. Sources revealed that during the meeting, Haggis requested the company to sign a document by this Friday, allowing the US military to use the company's artificial intelligence technology without restrictions, or else face consequences. Multiple sources disclosed that Haggis warned Amodei that Anthropic must set aside concerns about the military using their technology. Haggis also threatened to potentially invoke the Defense Production Act to compel Anthropic to comply with the request. The Defense Production Act grants the US government broad powers over private companies during times of war or national emergency.
