Minas Gerais state in Brazil has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall, causing floods and landslides, resulting in serious casualties and property damage. As of February 24th local time, the disaster has already led to at least 28 deaths, 214 people homeless, 446 people displaced, and many more missing. The most severely affected cities, Juiz de Fora and Ub, have declared a state of public calamity, schools have been suspended, and rescue teams are working to search for missing persons and evacuate trapped residents. In February alone, Juiz de Fora received 584 millimeters of rainfall, the highest in history for the same period.
