The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government strongly protests the Panamanian government's forced takeover of the operation of two ports at Cheung Kong.

On February 24th, according to a news release from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau today lodged a solemn protest with the Consul General of Panama in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong SAR Government strongly expressed dissatisfaction and opposition to the Panama Government's forcible takeover of two ports operated by Hutchison Ports in Panama yesterday, and the revocation of their operating rights, which violated the spirit of the contract. The Government emphasized that it will firmly support and protect the legitimate rights and interests of Hong Kong companies overseas.
