After more than 8,000 flights were cancelled and delayed due to a strong winter storm in the Northeastern United States, American airlines are adding flights on Tuesday, but still thousands of flights are affected. The blizzard covered parts of the Northeastern United States, leading to road closures and school closures. Frustrated passengers were left stranded after flights were cancelled on Monday night, prompting American airlines, including United Airlines, to plan for increased operations on Tuesday, but warning that the situation remains grim. According to data from analysis company Cirium as of late afternoon, it is expected that 7% of American flights will be cancelled on Tuesday, lower than the roughly 19% on Monday. The usual daily cancellation rate for domestic flights in the United States is 1%.
