Senator Durbin of the United States has expressed concerns about the debit card interchange fees, stating that Visa and Mastercard are trying to "gut" the Durbin Amendment. He has submitted a comment letter to counter Visa and Mastercard. Note: The Durbin Amendment is one of the core provisions of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which mandates the Federal Reserve to set limits on debit card interchange fees for large banks, promote competition, and reduce costs for merchants.
