Analyst: The level of radicalism in the threat of additional tariffs in the United States may decrease.
Berenberg's Atakan Bakiskan stated in a report that as the midterm elections approach, the United States' threat of imposing additional tariffs may not be as confrontational as in the past. Bakiskan mentioned that recent studies from the New York Federal Reserve Bank and the Kiel Institute show that the majority of the costs of tariffs by 2025 will be borne by American companies and consumers. Bakiskan noted that since it is now evident that tariffs are "hurting American consumers," President Trump's attitude towards issuing additional tariff threats before the November elections is likely to be less aggressive.
