On February 21st, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on social media that since the start of 2026, WHO has recorded 5 armed attacks against medical facilities in Sudan, resulting in 69 deaths and 49 injuries. Tedros called for all parties involved in the armed conflict in Sudan to immediately stop all attacks on medical facilities. He emphasized that medical facilities, health workers, and patients must be fully protected. On April 15th, 2023, armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese armed forces and Rapid Support Forces in the capital city of Khartoum, spreading to other areas. The ongoing armed conflict has resulted in nearly 30,000 deaths in Sudan over the past two years.
