On Thursday, federal prosecutors in the United States announced that a grand jury had indicted three Silicon Valley engineers for stealing trade secrets from Google and other tech companies and transferring sensitive data to Iran. The three individuals, 41-year-old Samae Ghandali, 32-year-old Sorour Ghandali (Samae's sister), and 40-year-old Mohammed Javad Hosseini (Sorour's husband), were arrested on Thursday and appeared in federal court the same day. All three are residents of San Jose. The indictment states that the defendants are all Iranian citizens. Sorour holds a non-immigrant student visa and is staying in the U.S. Samae later became a U.S. citizen, while Hosseini became a lawful permanent resident. Prosecutors stated that Hosseini had served in the Iranian military. The prosecution accuses the three defendants of using their positions at a leading technology company developing mobile computer processors to obtain hundreds of confidential documents, including materials related to processor security and cryptography (CNBC).
